Photo Credit: MJay Photography The Secrets to Staying Focused Before Your WeddingOk Brides and Grooms are you’re ready for the big one? The big day that is??...Your BIG day! As wedding season slowly befalls upon us I am working with all my B & G to get them prepped for their special day. So let me give you Secret # 3 in this series…as I am sure you have all been waiting for it (release breath now…). Secret # 3: Although I am not in the married category just yet, I do however have a very strong grasp on the reality of what it takes to plan and execute a large event. You see, I come from many years of planning and administrative work in the big old down town world of fun (not really fun but you get the picture) and from these many years I have had the pleasure of running way to many events. What do you think is the most important thing your boss wants from you when you organize these big events?... They MUST run on time!! That’s right! These kinds of agendas do not allow for any type of delay in programming or any unforeseen obstacles that would throw us off track. And it was my responsibility to see that it all ran smoothly. Now let’s be real for a second…of course there was issues!! I mean you’re dealing with people and when you’re organizing the movement of many people there will always be something that interrupts the perfect world balance of planning. Sigh…my world would come to a crashing halt!! So what have I learned from these many years of imperfect event planning that I can now use as a wedding planner?? Well, I have learned that weddings will be the same way. A wedding is a large event comprised of 2 main stars for the big day who are inevitably expecting the day to be flawless and perfect in every way. (This is where I come in!) Alicia to the rescue!! Ok, well not really, but kind of. You see, having a seamless timeline for the day is Secret # 3! Being able to create a timeline that begins the moment you wake up till the dancing begins at your reception will ensure that your beautiful day runs smoothly. And it’s my responsibility to see that this said timeline is executed perfectly! You might be wondering, but what if the makeup and hair run over time? Or what if the caterer doesn’t show up as scheduled? Or what do you do if there is traffic and the limos are late? OR what if the photos take longer than expected due to unforeseen weather conditions? (all real problems that can happen by the way). Well there is a little secret that I want to share with you that I use when I build a wedding day timeline for my couples. I plan for these things to happen! That’s right! I expect that there will be delays so I PLAN it into the timeline. I simply calculate the possible interruptions that could occur and then as I build the flow of the day I leave enough time to account for as many of these disruptions as possible. How am I able to calculate this, you might be asking? Years and years of event planning experience has given me the skills to know how best to account for unexpected delays in a program. The last tip I will leave with you today is this. Have someone that you have either hired as a planner or if that is not in your budget than someone who you know has the ability to organize well run your timeline for you. THIS IS THE KEY. You can create the most thought out plan but if there is no one there to execute it, than it can all fall down like a house of cards. So choose wisely. As a wedding planner, that is why you hire me. To come in and remove that stress. To plan and organize in order to see your dream day come true without you ever lifting a finger or worrying about the little details. Just ask the brides who have hired a planner and they will tell you how amazing it was. Here is what some of my brides have to say... Janani Nithiyeswaran Bourgouin · Calgary "So true! A wedding planner will be a life saver especially on the day of. Alicia is great at caring for her clients like family. You won't regret asking for her assistance and expertise." Priyanthi Dias Bandaranayake Nithiyeswaran · Toronto "Alicia is an absolute joy to work with. She went above and beyond to take care of her client. Alicia made sure everything went very smoothly at our wedding.Thank you Alicia for all your great work." Rebecca Macdonald - Calgary "Alicia at Beyond the Decor did an unbelievable job on our wedding. Quite frankly, I have no clue how on earth we could have done it without her. While I had a great time planning my wedding myself for the first few months, after a little while it starts to get exhausting as if you are working two full-time jobs. That was when Alicia became a superhero and savior to both my fiance and I. We were tired of making all the decisions and everyone asking us questions, calling and needing to talk about something with the wedding. Enough we said and we got Alicia!" Ok, so now you have it! Secret # 3, how to build a successful timeline for your wedding day! If you want to have that flawless and perfect day with no stress then may I suggest to you to leave a little wiggle room in your hour to hour planning. Happy planning! |
